How to Embrace Main Character Energy and Live Life for You

How to Embrace Main Character Energy and Live Life for You

Hello, beautiful people! Let’s dive into something that could totally change your life: Main Character Energy. The idea is simple yet powerful: live like you’re the star of your own story. It means showing up as the leading role in your life, not just a supporting character for everyone else. And for many of us, especially if you’re a partner, parent, or caregiver, this concept can feel both exciting and foreign.

If you’re tired of putting everyone else first and want to start living life in a way that genuinely makes you happy, here’s how to step into your own Main Character Energy.

What Is Main Character Energy?

Main Character Energy is about seeing yourself as the protagonist of your own story—where your needs, dreams, and goals are just as important as anyone else’s. It’s not about being selfish; it’s about self-respect and honouring your own life. When you start thinking this way, you realise it’s okay to say yes to yourself more often, whether that’s through small acts of self-care or making big life choices.

Five Signs You’re Living as a Supporting Character

Here are a few ways you might be giving away your Main Character status:

    •    Attending events you don’t enjoy because your partner or friends like them.

    •    Prioritising everyone else’s preferences (like always cooking what others want to eat).

    •    Taking on all the parenting or household duties so others can focus on their goals.

    •    Becoming the go-to fixer for everyone’s emotional problems, even if it drains you.

    •    Accepting poor treatment just to keep the peace.

Sound familiar? If so, it’s time to bring that Main Character Energy into your life!

Three Simple Questions to Start Your Main Character Journey

    1.    What’s creating this feeling?

When you feel frustrated or resentful, ask yourself what’s really behind it. Often, it’s from doing things out of obligation instead of desire.

    2.    If I could choose something else, would I?

This is a quick yes-or-no question. If your answer is “yes,” that’s a clue that a change might be needed.

    3.    What would I do differently?

This is where you start imagining new possibilities. Think about what you truly want—no limits.

Real-Life Examples of Main Character Energy

Here’s what Main Character Energy looks like in action:

    •    Saying no to things you don’t enjoy. For me, it’s turning down invites to live sporting events that I don’t care for. Instead, I spend my time on things I truly love.

    •    Taking time for yourself. One of my clients finally booked a solo retreat she’d wanted for years. She’s put her family first for so long, and now she’s allowing herself time to recharge.

    •    Making choices for your health. Another client who struggled with weight loss stopped making excuses and started cooking meals that support her health. Her family went along with it, and now everyone’s benefiting.

The Main Character Mindset

Stepping into Main Character Energy doesn’t mean disrupting everything; it just means making small choices that put you first. Start by creating a list of things you want to stop doing and things you want to start doing. Think of this as a gift—not just to yourself but to everyone around you.

And when you start to doubt yourself, try this phrase:

“Being the main character of my story is a gift that everyone will benefit from, and I give myself permission to try it out.” It’s not a lifelong commitment; it’s just a trial, a little experiment to see how it feels.

So, are you ready to become the main character of your own life?
